The placudxs

The placudxs are a tansformation of the cabezudos. Those popular figures that you knew were coming to the verbenas because you could hear the bagpipes from afar. That’s when you’d rush through your breakfast and get dressed quickly to run out and join them. With their disproportionate heads and colorful outfits, they amused and frightened us with mischief and daring

But the placudxs are another thing. They are a splinter group of those giant-headed figures—now relegated to never leaving a damp municipal warehouse. They turned into concrete, yet they refuse to lose the magic of those days when they would parade past our house while the whole family celebrated the big day. Just as we can sometimes still hear the commotion of the past if we press our ears against the concrete covering the property, xs placudxs have their own way of existing on the fringes of our lives—entertaining themselves by mocking our shadows. Since they no longer march with the band, they learned to make noise.
