A carda, a cuarza, o bicho e a moura are four insulating capsules made of wicker and wool. They go up and down through a system of pulleys thanks to a quartz stone that acts as a counterweight.
Inside, you can hear the soundscapes of the Pico Sacro cave. A chasm that runs through the depths of the quartz mountain and has the peculiarity of being able to contain all the sound of its surroundings inside. The sound waves enter through the north and east mouths and twist inside the cave, suspended, generating an echo from the outside. Any sound from outside (planes, birds, lawnmowers, explosions from the Serrabal quartz mine) is trapped in the cave, feeding back and causing all kinds of acoustic deformations, as if the chasm were the sound memory of the zone. If the voices of the environment can remain bouncing off its walls, how long do they last? Which ones are kept? Do they change depending on the moment? What can they teach us about how they are organized?
The recordings of these sound memories were made throughout 2025, in all seasons of the year. To listen to them: https://xscxxtxr.org/especial/o-pico-sacro/.
